Spamalot wins SIX Shuler Awards!

Milton Theatre’s production of Spamalot won SIX Shuler Awards last night. Winners were Spamalot Ensemble, McKenzie Kurtz-Best Actress, Brad Burnham-Best Supporting Actor, Crawford Horton-Best Featured Performer, Drew Bowers-Musical Direction and Chris Shumick-Orchestra

Shuler Hensley Award Nominations

NOMINATIONS were just announced for Excellence in High School Musical Theatre. These awards recognize excellence in high school musical theatre in the State of Georgia. This year 50 schools were involved and only six shows are chosen in each nomination area. Milton Theatre’s production of Spamalot received 13 nominations including:

Best Actor – Jason Byrd
Best Actress – McKenzie Kurtz
Best Supporting Actor – Brad Burnham
Best Featured Performer – Crawford Horton
Best Ensemble – Entire Cast
Best Technical Execution – All Technicians
Best Scenic Design – Sim Jones
Best Lighting Design – Sim Jones
Best Sound Design – Sim Jones
Musical Direction – Drew Bowers
Best Orchestra – Chris Shumick
Best Director – Renee Denney

Southeastern Theatre Conference (SETC)

Pippin, having won the Georgia Theatre Conference in the Fall, where Channing Wan (Leading Player) and Crawford Horton (Pippin) were honored with ALL-STAR Cast Awards and McKenzie Kurtz was named Best Actress for the Conference with her role as Catherine.

Georgia High School Thespian Conference

Sixty students from the Milton Theatre Company attended the annual Georgia High School Thespian Conference. Jason Byrd, McKenzie Kurtz, and Channing Wan received the highest possible ratings on their solo musical acts and Chris Lee, Crawford Horton and Ellis Larson also received the superior ratings for their group act. Only ten acts from the entire conference (several hundreds judged) are chosen to perform at the closing Showcase program. Jason, Channing, and Chris, Crawford, and Ellis were chosen and performed their acts for 4000 high school students. What an honor – they did a fantastic job! Our Tech Challenge team of Carl Appen, Christian Loria, Martine McLellan and Melissa Oliver won the overall title (third year in a row). Christian Loria won Sound System Set-up and Melissa Oliver won Knot Tying, Costume Quick Change, and Old Age Make-up. Melissa Oliver also won a college scholarship for Technical Theatre.
